Chamber sets out business priorities and a framework for sustainable growth
Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce has published two complementary papers setting out what businesses need to support sustainable economic growth, and how Government and industry can work together to deliver it.
The Future Growth Framework and Conditions for Growth – Ten Priorities have developed through Chamber’s Future of the Economy programme. They bring together member feedback and discussions with business leaders, moving from broad economic ambitions towards practical proposals for the new administration to consider.
Conditions for Growth – Ten Priorities, sets out the conditions businesses need to invest, recruit, innovate and expand. Chamber tested its initial priorities through a member survey, with responses highlighting the importance of sustainable growth alongside a strong call for more effective Government delivery.
That feedback shaped six immediate priorities:
- Sustainable economic growth
- A world-class business environment
- Modern Government delivery and decision-making
- Skills, talent and the future workforce
- Knowledge economy, innovation and human capability
- Housing and population
Four further priorities address the Island’s international proposition, infrastructure and connectivity, economic intelligence and accountability, and the economy of tomorrow.
The Future Growth Framework draws on focus groups, workshops and three Gold Member roundtables exploring economic ambition, the conditions businesses need to grow, and responsibility for delivery.
Its starting point is purpose before structure: agree what the Island needs to achieve and the functions required, then determine the structures needed to make it happen. Government sets direction, industry brings commercial insight, and coordinated action across Government creates the conditions for businesses to grow.
Together, the papers address two connected questions: what does business need now and how can we make it happen?
Chamber has submitted both documents as practical proposals to test and refine with Government and the wider business community.
